The image is everything, and I’m all about capturing, editing, and preserving them. In addition to my photography, highlights of which are shown on this site, I have also worked on Digital Asset Management projects (DAMS).
I specialize in documentary, nature, travel, and street photography. My hardware tools of choice are the Canon 6D Mark II along with 24-105, 70-300, and 50mm lenses. The iPhone 15 Pro also comes in handy sometimes. I work with Photoshop and Lightroom for processing RAW files and other image formats, and photo retouching. Other software used are Bridge, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro.
Most of the other time at home I work as a contractor with the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and as a freelancer on web sites for artists and small businesses. I can create and edit pages, posts, and style sheets (CSS) on sites built with WordPress themes or developed with Drupal. Descriptive keywords such as location, color, composition, and other content, along with site descriptions, page titles, and ALT tags are all important in determining how people find your website and images on the web. I pay close attention to adding these in the the code, and on the images themselves.
When not shooting, or editing photos or web sites I can be found doing freelance photo, motion picture, and video footage research. Mostly this is done at the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and various historical societies and stock agencies.
Prior to pursuing opportunities in film & video in the 80s I seriously thought about becoming a recording engineer. Music helps me maintain my sanity, and am listening to something all the time while working on projects in the web/imaging world. I try to see as much live music as possible.
