The image is everything, and I’m all about capturing, editing, and preserving them. In addition to my photography, highlights of which are shown on this site, I have also worked on Digital Asset Management projects (DAMS). Most recently I was a contractor at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural history (NMNH) adding descriptions, keywords, and other metadata to back catalog images of artifacts, fossils, and events that were shot by staff photographers. They were then archived by me to their DAMS. A few years prior to that I assisted on a file management project in the exhibits department also at NMNH, organizing files of past exhibits so that they would be easier to find for future revisions.

I specialize in documentary, event, travel, and street photography. My hardware tools of choice are the Canon 6D Mark II and 7D along with 24-105, 70-300, and 50mm lenses. I work with Photoshop and Lightroom for processing RAW files and other image formats, and photo retouching. Other software used are Bridge, Illustrator, InDesign.

Before expanding my involvement in the asset management world, I spent a few years as an assistant photo editor with the magazine Old House Journal. This involved doing research on, and acquiring photos of houses for a publication devoted to the renovation and up keep of such dwellings.

Most of the other time at home I work as a freelancer on web sites for artists and small businesses. I can create and edit pages, posts, and style sheets (CSS) on sites built with WordPress themes or developed with Drupal. Descriptive keywords such as location, color, composition, and other content, along with site descriptions, page titles, and ALT tags are all important in determining how people find your website and images on the web. I pay close attention to adding these in the the code, and on the images themselves.

When not shooting, or editing photos or web sites I can be found doing freelance photo, motion picture, and video footage research. Mostly this is done at the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and various historical societies and stock agencies.

Contact me to document your event, or for post shoot image processing and editing.
